A street trader looking to open a concession on Gurnard Seafront has had their application stalled. It comes after the Isle of Wight Council’s licensing sub-committee was unable to determine if The Salty Siren could operate along Princes Esplanade in Gurnard, selling ice cream, drinks, slushies, buckets and spades as well as other items. The application had been met with nearly 20 objections. Council officers, the applicant (Carly Sykes) and objectors turned up to County Hall on Tuesday morning to debate the street trader licence but there were not enough councillors present to make any decision. The meeting was opened by Councillor Michael Beston and then swiftly closed as he said they were unable to continue. Ben Gard, the authority’s legal officer, advised there must be 3 councillors present to lawfully conduct business so the meeting will be rescheduled for a later date. Out of a possible 10 councillors who could sit on the sub-committee, only 2 were present after Councillor Clare Mosdell, the 3rd member who was supposed to attend today’s meeting, sent her apologies.

Be Far too tacky for the stuck up gurnard folk ! Ever been in the disabled loo there though anyone? And then compare seaclose one or anywhere else ? My god..its night n day lol
Pure filth they all are APART from gurnard! Its Where the standards and money are thats for sure
Charles Darwin at work: hard work provides better remuneration, leading to respect & good standards. Sadly declining widely in todays entitled demographic. Viva Gurnard the greys!
If you got in the disabled toilet you must be fairly fit. I couldn’t get up to it in my wheelchair
Maybe arrogant mosdell was too busy with her horsies in her illegally built stables.?
Two councillors out of a possible Ten!
Not good enough.
They put themselves up to represent their residents.
So they should be representative.
They are, there residents don’t want change, this is the only way to stop change. If they turned up they’d have had to follow the law and allow a new business in Gurnard!
I can’t see what the problem is, aslong as they take bins for rubbish to go in. Kids and families would enjoy in the summer. Great place to crab, fish, swim and enjoy a great British sea side
I trust the 7 councillors who could/ should have attended are suspended and any pay/expenses are are withheld.
Goes to show that they do not have the knowledge or capability to make difficult decisions!
20 objections and an envelope full of cash = not in my back yard.
Slushies? For heaven’s sake, she must be crazy. A good chianti would suffice.
Who needs useless councillors
Buckets and spades on a beach without a grain of sand , really!!
