A 45-year-old man from Brading remains in Police custody this morning (Thursday) following an incident in Winford overnight during which Armed Police discharged their weapons.
As first reported by Island Echo, shots were fired on the quiet residential street of Forest Way during the early hours of this morning. It was at around 02:00 that residents reported hearing “Armed Police – put the gun down”.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has now confirmed that officers were deployed to a domestic incident an address in Winford at 01:26 this morning.
Police say that the suspect was shot with non-lethal attenuating energy projectiles, known as baton rounds, in order to detain him. Island Echo understands 2 rounds were fired.
The unnamed 45-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of a firearms offence and a driving offence. He remains in custody at this time.
It has been confirmed that the firearm recovered from the scene is an imitation.
