UPDATED: 45-year-old David Soppitt is to appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today (Friday) charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and drink driving following an incident in Winford yesterday (Thursday).
It was during the early hours of Thursday that Police were called to a domestic incident on Forest Way in Winford, as first reported by Island Echo. It’s here that Armed officers eventually shot Mr Soppitt with 2 baton rounds in order to detain him.
A firearm was recovered from the scene but it has since been confirmed that it was in fact an imitation. A vehicle was also taken away.
Now, after questioning by Police, the 45-year-old has been charged with 2 offences. He will appear before Magistrates later on today.
UPDATE @ 13:45 – David Soppitt’s case has been adjourned until 5th November. He did not enter any pleas during today’s court appearance.
He was remanded in custody.
