Police were called at 22:20 to reports of an unexpectedly large number of people attending a party on Main Road. Officers attended the scene and remained there until the incident, which was contained to a single address, was resolved.
A Co-Responder, local paramedics and an ambulance officer were also mobilised to the scene in Wellow, as previously reported.
Island Echo understands that the party was taking place in a barn belonging to a respected member of the community who was throwing a bash for their teenage son.
According to Police, a 16-year-old boy suffered a cut to his head during last night’s incident. The youngster was conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment. Island Echo is told by sources that other youngsters were also injured in the incident, including a teenage girl who has required stitches to her head.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have confirmed they mobilised 2 ambulances and an officer to the scene, with 2 people taken to hospital and other teenagers in drink treated at the scene.
Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that 4 teenagers – 3 boys and a girl – have been arrested in connection with this incident. It is alleged by those at the party last night that officers used their CS spray to subdue individuals.
- A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and obstructing a constable in execution of their duty. He remains in custody at Newport Police Station at this time.
- A second 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. He also remains in custody at this time.
- A 17-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and she remains in custody at this time.
- An 18-year-old boy was arrested and later given a conditional caution for being drunk and disorderly in public.
