28-year-old Darren Rose from Shore Road in Ventnor has been jailed for 4 months after leading Police on a chase through rural roads on the Isle of Wight on Tuesday.

As first reported by Island Echo, officers arrested Rose on Tuesday lunchtime when a pursuit of a Ford Fiesta ended with a minor crash in Borthwood, near Alverstone.

The Isle of Wight Magistrates Court heard this week how officers pulled Rose over at the side of the road in Lake but he then sped off, sparking a high-speed pursuit. The chase ended on Borthwood Lane when Rose – who was already out on licence for previous convictions – crashed into a wooden fence. He was apprehended as he made an escape.

After admitting to driving whilst disqualified and failing to stop a mechanically propelled vehicle when required by a constable, Magistrates handed Darren Rose a 4 month prison sentence with a further driving ban of 20 months. They took into account a guilty plea for driving whilst disqualified and without insurance on a previous occasion too.

Charges of theft of a motor vehicle and taking without consent (TWOC) were dropped due to a lack of evidence.
