Police have arrested the driver of a Ford Fiesta following a pursuit in the quiet village of Adgestone this lunchtime (Tuesday).

The incident began at around 11:20 when the vehicle failed to stop for officers in Apse Heath, which led to a small pursuit around country lanes between Winford and Alverstone.

1 person has been detained after the nippy hatchback came to a stop on a dirt track, colliding with a wooden fence in the process.

The vehicle has now been seized by officers on Borthwood Lane.

It has been confirmed to Island Echo that 1 person has been detained by officers. They have been taken to Newport Police Station for questioning.

UPDATE @ 15:45 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a 28-year-old man from Ventnor has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police, driving whilst disqualified and theft of a motor vehicle.

He’s currently in police custody at this time.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY – 28-year-old Darren Rose from Shore Road in Bonchurch, Ventnor has been charged with a string of offences.

He has  been formally charged with 4 offences: Taking a motor vehicle without the owners consent; driving whilst disqualified; failing to stop a mechanically propelled vehicle when required by a constable and theft of a motor vehicle.

He has been remanded to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today (Wednesday 22nd May 2019).

Editor’s footnote: It was initially reported that Mr Rose had been charged with a 5th offence – wounding with intent – based on incorrect information supplied by Hampshire Constabulary. This was incorrect – Mr Rose was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent, but not charged. He is to face no further action in regards to this arrest. The information published has been amended to reflect this.
