UPDATED: 33-year-old Matthew Emson of Albert Street in Ventnor has been charged with numerous offences, including attempted robbery, following an incident involving an axe in Ventnor yesterday afternoon (Thursday).
As first reported by Island Echo, Police were called to the town’s Post Office shortly before 15:50 following reports of an attempted robbery on the shop by a man armed with an axe. No one was hurt.
Mr Emson has now been charged with 2 counts of attempted robbery, threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and theft from a shop.
He will appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court in Newport this morning (Friday).
UPDATE @ 14:19 – Matthew Emson did not enter any pleas when he appeared before the court earlier on today.
The case has been adjourned until 5th November when Mr Emson will appear before the Isle of Wight Crown Court.
He has been remanded in custody.
