Emergency services are in attendance between Ryde and Brading this morning (Sunday), where a car has crashed into trees at the side of the road.
2 people – a man and a woman – have been injured in the single vehicle collision, which occurred shortly after 06:00.
A black Vauxhall Corsa has left the road on Beaper Shute between Brading Road (Tesco roundabout) and Harding Shute.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are checking over the occupants of the car, 1 of which has been placed in a neck brace.
Island Echo understands fire crews were also called to the scene earlier on this morning but have since stood down. Police remain in attendance.
It appears the car, for reasons unknown, left the road whilst travelling towards Ryde, crashing into undergrowth and trees being being spun and coming to a stop head-on into another tree.
Beaper Shute has been closed to traffic heading towards Ryde, but remains open for vehicles heading south. Northbound traffic is being diverted via Harding Shute and Ashey.
Recovery of the hatchback has been arranged and the road is expected to fully reopen shortly.
UPDATE @ 08:18 – Beaper Shute has now been closed in both directions to allow recovery of the car.
Southern Vectis buses are diverting via Nettlestone.
UPDATE @ 13:15 – The road remains closed whilst Police await the outcome of medical assessments at St Mary’s Hospital.
A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving. Read more at https://www.islandecho.co.uk/suspected-drug-driver-arrested-over-beaper-shute-crash/.

……
hmm – man and woman in car at 0600 – probably arguing about something and whoever was driving wasn’t focused on the road ahead.
Or perhaps a bit of diesel on a damp road.
well, well, well, – driver has been arrested on drug driving charges
Driven down there countless times. Guess what, my car has never left the road for unknown reasons.
DU DU DU DU Another car bites the dust
Unreal the driving here !
They crashed into a tree. I sympathize with the tree…. Glad it wasn’t an innocent motorists they collided with.
Can anybody explain why the standard of driving on the Isle of Wight is so poor.
I cannot think of a day where i have not seen rubbish driving , why does the wife not let me drive?
How come you all seem to know what happpened? Where you there? I lost relatives in a car crash don’t always presume it is the drivers fault unless you know the truth keep your opnions to yourselves.
Idiot comes to mind when people like you comment..
Maybe the fact yest and todays were 20 somethings!!
Speaks for itself why
So many nasty comments . If you don’t know the facts, don’t speculate. !!!!
You are a silly little lady
Hey Steve. Look up “misogynist”
Reported elsewhere by the police… male arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
I totally agree. The amount of people judging my crash on here saying it was the hedges fault when they didn’t know what happed is ridiculous!! No one knows what actually happened and for all you know the driver and passenger could be really shaken up and hurt.
Drunk driver, too fast, not paying attention, could be loads of reasons why this happened, will just have to wait till the real reason is given.
Why is there still so much traffic around Smallbrook junction and the surrounding areas if this incident was sorted out earlier?
