1 in 3 care homes on the Isle of Wight are now reporting outbreaks of the coronavirus.
In the latest figures, published by Public Health England, 24 out of 75 care homes on the Island, including residential and nursing homes, are recording suspected or confirmed cases of the virus.
5 further homes identified they had confirmed cases or symptoms last week, after a seeming drop the week before, where only 1 home reported it.
The first cases confirmed in a care home on the Island happened in the week beginning 30th March and have been steadily rising until a decrease the week before.
Other data from the Office for National Statistics shows the number of people who have passed away from COVID-19 in Isle of Wight care homes has reached double figures — with 10 now confirmed.
The latest figures of infection on the Island show 161 people have had the virus, and either recovered or died in the pandemic.

Likely the care workers spreading it from one home to another. Shame that they cannot dedicate care workers to individual homes, to lessen the risk to both patients and these wonderful but at risk careers.
Frightening if your parents or loved ones are in a home now. Bizarre to think where people were once deemed the safest, is now likely the most dangerous.
Cannot see an end to this misery, just seems to have more and more bad news daily, now experts say we may never get a cure, as it is like the common cold virus of which there has never been found a cure, and to make it worse, they say that like the cold, we will likely NOT be immune once we have had it , as IF like the cold, the virus will change very quickly so we will never become immune or a vaccine found.
Hope they are wrong.
I’d like to think the care staff and being safe and protecting there clients. But some people are carriers and shown no signs covid and could be spreading it this way.
Unsurprisingly, the care homes in question are not identified.
Hardly ‘there’ fault. But to name such would likely prevent others sending their parents there so they have to be careful.
He’s right, what are they trying to hide! have you seen my tinfoil hat Stephen? I think I left it at your when we did that bleach drinking thing.
