HM Coastguard are assisting a yacht that has run aground on Ryde Sands this afternoon (Monday).
‘Golden Key’ is currently stuck on a sandbank having seemingly been caught out by a falling tide.
A Pan Pan – a less urgent call than a Mayday – was issued by the skipper of the 24ft vessel at around 13:00 and picked up by Solent Coastguard, who have mobilised Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team to Ryde Esplanade.
Coastguard Officers are on scene at North Walk.
It is thought the small yacht will be in-situ for several hours.
UPDATE @ 14:54 – Coastguard Officers have walked out across the sands to meet with the yacht’s skipper.
Plans are now being put in place to refloat the vessel with the tide.
