Bembridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat, the Norman Harvey, was launched to help assist a yacht that had run aground at the entrance to Bembridge Harbour yesterday evening (Thursday).
Shortly after 19:00, Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the D-Class lifeboat from Lane End to go to the aid of a 24ft sailing yacht – with 1 person on board – that had gone aground on a rising tide.
The lifeboat and her volunteer crew were quickly on scene and after discussing the options with the skipper of the casualty vessel, it was agreed to tow the yacht to the Visitors Pontoon.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were also called to the incident to meet with the skipper once ashore. They were called out to the same yacht earlier in the evening also.
Having berthed the yacht safely alongside the pontoon, the Norman Harvey returned back to Lane End and was recovered by 20:00.
