UPDATED: The body of a woman has been discovered in The Solent this afternoon (Monday).
Cowes RNLI Lifeboat was requested to launch by Solent Coastguard at 13:00 after a body was spotted floating in the water between the Isle of Wight and the mainland, near to Brambles Bank.
The identity of the body is yet to be confirmed, however a search is ongoing for missing 40-year-old Rebecca Allan, who was reported missing by family and friends after going missing in Yarmouth on Saturday night.
Hampshire Constabulary’s Marine Unit boat ‘Preventer’ has recovered the body with the assistance of Cowes RNLI and is taking the deceased to Empress Dock in Southampton.
UPDATE @ 18:30 – Police have this evening confirmed that the family of missing Rebecca Allan have been informed of the discovery, which is not being treated as suspicious.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY: Hampshire Constabulary have today confirmed the body discovered in the Solent on Monday is that of missing Rebecca Allan.
Police are now making an appeal for witnesses to come forward as the circumstances leading up to Rebecca’s disappearance and death are investigated. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
It is believed Rebecca was last seen near to a jetty near Yarmouth Sailing Club, walking across the green towards the beer tent.
Anyone with information or any witnesses to Rebecca’s movements in Yarmouth on Saturday night or early on Sunday morning are asked to contact the Isle of Wight Investigation Team by phoning 101.
