A woman has been airlifted to a mainland hospital after sustaining a significant head injury in her own home in Sandown, with an elderly male also taken to hospital. Police say the woman has sustained serious injuries as a result of a domestic-related incident at an address on The Ridgeway. As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services responded to the residential address off Perowne Way just before 09:45 this morning. Flying doctors from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance touched down at the scene near Stower Place just under an hour later at 10:40. It’s understood the female’s head and facial injuries have been sustained as a result of contact with a solid object. She has since been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital for specialist treatment.
Meanwhile, an elderly male has been conveyed by land to St Mary’s Hospital. He was brought out of the same property by paramedics. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the incident is contained with no risk to the wider public. Police do not believe there to be anyone else involved in this incident at this time. No arrests have been made at this time. Detectives from Newport CID have taken the lead on the investigation with enquiries underway to establish the full circumstances of today’s incident.
