The court heard how Ciampa-Buckley, of Castle Close in Ventnor, was 2.7x the legal drink-drive limit when her vehicle ploughed off the road at Belgrave Road on 25th September 2018. It was found that she had 216mgs of alcohol in 100mls of blood – the legal limit is 80mgs.
As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services rushed to the scene overlooking Ventnor Esplanade with fears the driver of a VW Beetle had sustained serious injuries. Amazingly, Laura Ciampa-Buckley escaped not only with her life, but with only minor injuries. She was taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
Ciampa-Buckley has been sentenced to a 2-year driving ban, as well as a 12 month community order. She has also been told to complete 80 hours of unpaid work and pay £85 costs with a £85 surcharge.
