Paramedics are treating a woman who has sustained injuries after jumping from a first floor window in the centre of Ryde this evening (Monday).
Emergency teams have descended on Fellowship House on the corner of Green Street and Station Street. It’s here that a woman has exited an upstairs window and landed on the pavement below.
Police officers rushed to the scene sometime after 20:00 and started administering first aid ahead of the arrival of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service at 20:45.
The extent of the casualty’s injuries are unknown at this time.
UPDATE @ 21:15 – The woman has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by Ambulance accompanied by Police.
UPDATE TUESDAY @ 09:24 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that officers were already in the area of Green Street when the woman in her 20s exited the window last night. They were dealing with reports of anti-social behaviour.
The incident has not prompted an IOPC (Independent Office for Police Conduct) referral.
A spokesperson has said:
“Police assisted the ambulance service with a woman in her 20s who became injured after falling from height at an address in Green Street, Ryde, at around 8.30pm last night (8 July)”.

Moral of the story: If you jump out of a first floor window, you can expect injuries.
Cant blame the Police, they are forever being called to this hostel. If its not police, its ambulance, not a week goes by without one or the other being called to the hostel. This hostel should never have been built in the centre of town. Always trouble there every week. The residents gather on the corner of Green St with their cans or the entrance to the car park again with their cans or other things. They appear to have no respect for anyone. I should know, i live next door.
Stop there benefits! All they spend it on beer and drugs.
The rest of us taxpayers have to pay for that!!
Same with the Foyer on George St.. They all seem to be feral…

Whilst I hope no serious injuries were sustained, there is a question about the amount of ‘jumpers’ we seem to be hearing about at the moment.. Newport has had a number of incidents, as have Ryde if I remember correctly, but the obvious question is …Why? Certainly in Newport there were incidents around the multi-story car park so why has no one put something up to stop them, or is it just another sad case of a Mentally ill person determined to commit suicide and no room in the Mental Health facilities here so they get talked down, sent to hospital, released and do it again.. It’s just a strange series of events that beg the question, but have no answer at the moment.
I had a friend who volunteer there and there was no trouble when my friend was there helping the homeless and drug people to get them back on the right road and look for work.and housing
Does everyone know that it is run by the salvation army they are there to help the struggling people in the town
They smuggle drinks in under there noses ? Why should people live like this near that nightmare ! Struggling to buy drink and drugs . While people struggle to buy food pay bill we fund them .
