After the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles III has been declared King of the United Kingdom. But here is a little bit more about the man who now leads the British Monarchy.
The first child of his Mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and his Father, Phillip Duke of Edinburgh, Charles Philip Arthur George was born on 14th November 1948 at Buckingham Palace.
Charles enjoyed formal education at the Cheam and Gordonstoun schools – both of which his father attended as a child. His later education saw him learn in Victoria, Australia before being awarded a bachelor’s degree at the University of Cambridge.
Charles served in the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy from 1971 to 1976, and he flew himself to the Royal Air Force College Cranwell to train as a jet pilot at the start of his military career before embarking on his naval career in September of 1971.
In 1974, he qualified as a helicopter pilot at RNAS Yeovilton, and then joined 845 Naval Air Squadron – but unfortunately had to give up flying after crash landing a BAe 146 in Islay in 1994.
In 1981, he married Lady Diana Spencer, with whom he had 2 sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. After Diana’s death in 1997, it wasn’t until 2005 that he re-married, marrying Camilla Parker Bowles who is now Queen Consort.
As the Prince of Wales, Charles would often carry out numerous official duties and has at times been known as the ‘hardest working royal’.
Founder of the Prince’s Trust in 1976, Charles has established 16 more charitable organisations and is a self-described environmentalist. Charles has supported organic farming and action to prevent climate change as the manager of the Duchy of Cornwall estates, a stance that has seen him earn numerous awards and recognition from environmental groups.
Often outspoken in his views on certain issues affecting the nation, it remains to be seen how Charles will adapt to the neutrality of a monarch.
The last time the country was ruled by a King named Charles was in 1685 when the then king, Charles II died. His father, Charles I, was briefly imprisoned at Carisbrooke Castle here on the Isle of Wight back in 1649.
Charles III has chosen to go with his first name and not the other opens available to him like Phillip, Arthur or George. The regal name he will be known by will indeed by King Charles – as first confirmed during the new Prime Minister Liz Truss’ address on Thursday evening.
One of King Charles’ first duties was to confer the title of Prince of Wales to his son William – this is not done automatically after someone assumes a new role. William and his wife Catherine have now also become the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, as well as of Cambridge.

Charles king pot head
Could be the Tower for you, treason is still a crime.
the oppression of the monarchy by threatening to lock someone up for disagreeing with them, is alive and well in you terry.
individuals have the right to disagree with the system in place and take steps to change it for the better, without fear of pain by those currently holding the reigns of any form of power.
Don’t be silly Tezza.
Just will say, King Charles and those letters he wrote to camilla, what a travesty this will be.
The way I see it, and I could be wrong, he is representative the British people.
Mother married a Greek bar tender and moved to Scotland. Father was an open racist. Wife left him and became a junky and died in a car accident. Can’t be sure both of his kids are his. Grand children are mixed race. Bother was caught hanging about with pedos. And one of his great uncles was a German spy.
Yes, all royals down through the ages are pretty dodgy. It’s corrupt, dangerous and always will be they just politically cut their enemies heads off nowadays. Not just Britain either is like this.
Is he the nazi or the pedo? I always get them confused
Andrew is the pedo, Charles is the Nazi.
What a stupid bloody question..
