After the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, here’s what happens across the country now.
Prince Charles has automatically become King and has already addressed the nation in a televised broadcast, with the Prime Minister due to hold an audience with Charles shortly. However, it could be some time before he is officially crowned King Charles III.
As a mark of respect, Union Flags are being flown at half-mast and bells will undoubtedly toll as the United Kingdom enters a period of mourning, with businesses set to close and major sporting events likely to be cancelled. Comedy on television and stage will be cancelled until after the funeral.
The Ministry of Defence will organise a gun salute from key sites, most likely including Portsmouth, and a minute of silence is to be held across the country. Politicians are to be recalled to Westminster to swear allegiance to the new monarch.
The London Stock Exchange is expected to close for at least 1 day and potentially for several, which will have an impact on the economy.
As The Queen has passed at Balmoral, Scottish ritual will now commence; her body is to lie at Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. She will later be carried up the Royal Mile to St. Giles’s Cathedral before being placed on the Royal train to London.
For almost all, things have always been ‘Her Majesty’. Now, organisations become His Majesty’s Coastguard; His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs; His Majesty’s Prison, His Majesty’s Passport and so on.
Moving forward, well-rehearsed plans are being put into action ahead of the state funeral.

Exceptional Woman. A very sad time for the UK and the world. Condolences to her family and friends. Her Majesty will never be forgotten and has left an amazing legacy of grace and service

Businesses set to close? Don’t be ridiculous.
Passed? Passed what? An exam?
The Queen had died. People need to stop using praises like passed, passed on, passed away – when people die they die. They’ve died. They’re dead.
