Wessex Cancer Support has thanked everyone who braved the weather to support its first-ever Dragon Boat Race, which raised an incredible £19,000 to help Islanders affected by cancer.
The race took place on Saturday (30th August) and saw teams go head-to-head on the water in a lively and spirited competition, despite the challenging conditions.
Wessex Cancer Support has said:
“What an amazing day! A huge thank you to everyone who battled the elements to support our debut Dragon Boat Race.
“So far you’ve helped us raise an incredible £19,000!”
Topping the leaderboard was WH Brading, followed by PC Consultants in second place and WRS Systems in third. Organisers have congratulated all teams for their energy and enthusiasm throughout the day.

The charity also extended thanks to the volunteers, suppliers and sponsors who helped make the event possible, with WH Brading, Rouse Ltd and Biscoes Solicitors all recognised for their support.
Funds raised from the event will go directly towards supporting people across the Isle of Wight living with cancer, helping to provide free emotional and practical support through Wessex Cancer Support’s local services.

This is a great charity and im glad they did well even with the horrendous weather, well done to all the stalls there sticking out the bad weather for charity.
Well done to Ricky Ashanollah for some amazing photographs throughout the day.
Thank you very much. My pleasure. Well done all who took part in this amazing event.
