Firefighters have been called to the High Street in Ryde this evening (Monday) where part of a charity shop building has collapsed. Inspections are being carried out at the British Red Cross shop, where a wall to the rear of the building has given way. 1 appliance from Ryde and a duty officer were mobilised to the scene at just gone 18:00. It comes as strong winds and driving rain lashes the Island. No one has been injured and no other properties in the terraced row appear to be affected.
Staff at the charity shop are aware of the situation and are present. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has contacted the Isle of Wight Council about the situation.
