A van has rolled onto its side and 2 other vehicles have been damaged as a result of a road traffic collision in Winford this morning (Thursday).
The Citroen Belingo was travelling west on Forest Road when it collided with a Nissan Micra that was ‘carefully’ pulling out of a driveway.
The crash occurred shortly before 07:00.
A Peugeot 508 parked on the opposite side of the road has also been damaged in the incident, which has resulted in the van rolling over and blocking the road.
Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are now on scene having initially deployed to Forest Road in Newport.
Paramedics are checking over the 2 male drivers with wrist and back injuries reported.
Southern Vectis Route 8 buses are diverting locally.
UPDATE @ 08:24 – 1 person has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for further assessment.
The road has been closed in both directions by Police.
UPDATE @ 11:06 – A man in his 40s suffered minor injuries in the crash, Police have confirmed.
The road has now re-opened.

Carefully pulling out. Now i dont know the circumstances, but! that is one brilliant quote for the Insurance company, “i was carefully pulling out of my driveway when a van drove into me, double flipped and took out two other cars as well”. Dash cam to youtube hopefully. Trust all are fine and tea has been consumed, and maybe someones, not saying whose, glasses located.
Never put anything out on social media until after the settlement! Insurance companies look for reason not to pay and will watch your accounts, especialy if injury claims are involved..
Someone I know was in collision with another car, and the other driver actually said “I’m so sorry, I was rushing to catch the ferry”. Wrong!!!
Yes we have CCTV so all recommended thanks
Forrest road is a complete do what you like road. Its like an industrial estate car park. Parking opposite junctions, on the brow of hills. Residents cant pull out of their drives without putting themselves in danger.
Most places on the island are park where you like they build houses with drives but people don’t use them and park on corners he was probably trying to get out his drive slowly as idiots have parked near his drive so he couldn’t see sounds normal to me
It’s the same where I live Great Preston Road Ryde , can’t see to get off my driveway from my right because of vans parked up, which blocks our view. This is one fear that this will happen to us one day . And the traffic certainly doesn’t stick to the speed limit along here either.
You can’t expect a van driver to look out for cars entering the road from a driveway as their full attention must be on staying two inches from the rear bumper of the car in front while texting and drinking coffee.
Before the haters enter the fray, we have all seen it…..
Well said, bloody van drivers are a pain. They are all very aggressive driver’s with a lousy attitude…
And yes if people are honest, they have all had them trying to park up in your boot…
How is it careful to pull out into the path of another vehicle.
Very amateursh of emergency response to go to the wrong forest road Innit?
I’m not in any way an accident claims investigator, but since you’ve put this up as news then I’m entitled to add my observation.
Looking at photo No2, the Micra driver wasn’t “carefully” pulling out of the drive way enough.
They look like they were pulling out on to the main road and their view of vision was blocked by the parked vehicle to their left. The sun would have been low then at 7am and rising to their left side from the east.
With the sun being low which made any attempt to look through that parked vehicle and their own car’s windows, any glare in their eyes very restricted vision.
The Micra driver did not see the van.
If the van driver was paying attention and driving at a suitable speed he would have seen the car moving out of the driveway, then he could have taken the appropriate action…
YES i totally agree you drive in a built up area you have to be aware of lots of things that might happen and people have got to edge out of drive ways and junctions to see sometimes, but everybody is in such a rush in the morning that no one waits to let people out, especially some on the school run
Thank you for your opinion
Nissan Micra and a bungalow has to be an old person who probably has got the eyesight
of Cyclops.
Actually the driver has good eyesight and is definitely not a Cyclops
What a horrible accident. Glad they’ve all walked away from it…not the first accident on this Rat Run, mind you I’m surprised this happened with all the Groundworks vans and trailers that are abandoned here from a local builder who refuses to park legally!
Couldn’t agree more, pulling out of Cupressus Avenue is like playing Russian roulette when works vehicles are parked inconsiderately and the owners land rover discovery also.
Certain amount of speed involved if two cars were hit before turning over !!!
Insurance Companies look at these sort of accidents as that the person pulling out of the Driveway is obstructing the free course of traffic on the road so is at fault , should have had someone on the road seeing the driver out .
Rubbish. There is often a van or car parked opposite the drives along that road. I certainly wouldn’t fancy
directing cars out of drives. you would often have to stand in the middle of the road to do that. NO THANK YOU. Perhaps we should adopt what some country’s stipulate. ” If you cant park your car off road , your not allowed to have one.
One can park a car/van outside their property. it is the responsibilty of the person pulling out of the driveway safely . A person directing the driver is considered responsible
So amauter sleuths no more than the investigators. The family could be reading these posts and could be upsetting. Hope all ok and wish them a speedy recovery.
I think they already are mate,x
Erm. It says “Winford”. Surely it was Forest Way – not Forest Road?
That’s what I said???? And I received nou per!
Good time to carry out under body / brake check!
Blue up black down!
Just a quick update. All the works and commercial vans and trucks usually parked along Forest road have disappeared as if by magic. Not for long i bet.
