UPDATED: The pursuit of a van through the streets of Shanklin has ended with 1 male being detained by Police tonight (Saturday).

Officers began their chase of the white Citroen Belingo Peugeot Partner at around 20:40, weaving in and out of residential streets and main roads between Whiteley Bank and the heart of Shanklin.

However, the pursuit has been brought to an end following the dumping of the vehicle by its driver in a dead-end road.

Local residents say that multiple Police cars have been involved in the incident with officers surrounding a playing field next to St Blasuis Primary School. It’s here that 1 male has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

It’s understood the van has sustained front-end damage after colliding with a parked Ford Focus car on Garfield Road. Recovery of the van has been arranged.

UPDATE SUNDAY – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a 47-year-old man from Shanklin has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for Police, driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs, and having no insurance.

He remains in custody at this time.
