Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision in Godshill this morning (Monday).
Police temporarily closed School Road – the main through road – after a van collided with a gas main. The road was closed in both directions between West Street and Whiteley Bank Roundabout.
Firefighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were on scene opposite Schoool Cresent, near Godshill Primary School, providing scene safety.
Southern Vectis bus routes 2 & 3 were diverting via Canteen Road, Apse Heath, Arreton & Merstone in both directions but the road has since re-opened and buses have returned to a normal route.
SGN Engineers are currently on the scene making the repair to the fractured gas main.
So there is a gas main sticking up from the ground at the edge of the road with not even a pavement to offer any kind of protection? Mental. :/
