UPDATED: A main road in Ryde has been closed by the fire service tonight (Tuesday) to allow for the evacuation of an unwell person from a flat.
An appliance from Sandown – which was training in Ryde – and the aerial ladder platform from Ryde are in attendance at Union Street, where a person is about to be removed via an upstairs window.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have 2 ambulances and an officer on scene.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 19:40.
Southern Vectis bus routes are affected and are diverting locally.
UPDATE @ 20:41 – Union Street has now re-opened following the successful patient transfer.
