Residents have hit out after a number of trees were ‘mindlessly vandalised’ on a quiet residential road in Ryde overnight.
A series of trees that were recently planted along Mayfield Road on the fringes of Binstead have been snapped in half.
It is thought the vandalism took place between 22:30 last night (Thursday) and 07:00 this morning.
Angry locals have taken to Facebook to express their disgust at the situation and to appeal for any information. It is hoped that a reward can be put together for any information that leads to a conviction.

Only sad people do this.
Very sad, but unfortunately not surprising, seldom are adults responsible for such destruction, mindless youths with utter disrespect is the most likely scenario.
Are those responsible for this act willing to proudly admit to this? or will whoever is responsible be cowards to the end.
I have little doubt the cowards will hide.
a bloody good punch to the head will sort the shits out
I hope the Council wasn’t behind the action, to save money on upkeep. Nothing would surprise me nowadays. Lip service is paid to the importance of trees for our sense of well being, yet look at the rate of their destruction on the Island, by builders, large companies, home-owners, Island Roads – and nowadays it’s so quick and easy for anyone to do this. Not everyone can or has the time to go out to walk in a wood, and the sense of wellbeing from looking out the window at your ‘own’ local tree can be very great.
I was woken at 3am by a group of youths shouting along Pellhurst Road. I saw the post about the trees and wonder if they were the culprits? They were walking towards mayfield road and then came back along Pellhurst about 20/30mins later what they’re doing roaming the streets at that time I don’t know!
