A tree has crashed down and hit a car on one of the main roads between Newport and the West Wight this evening (Thursday).
Middle Road is currently blocked in both directions between The Blacksmith Arms and Elm Lane, Calbourne as a result of a large tree coming down across the carriageway.
A Mini One convertible has been damaged by the falling debris, but thankfully the occupants have escaped any serious injury. The windscreen of the vehicle has been smashed.
Island Roads have been made aware of the incident and have deployed contractors to the scene to clear the tree.
The road is expected to be closed for several hours.
