A tree has crashed down onto a camper van at Appley Park in Ryde this afternoon (Tuesday), leading to an emergency response by fire crews, paramedics and Police.
Shortly before 14:15 it was reported that the occupants of the van were trapped inside after a tree fell down onto the roof the vehicle in high winds.
However, firefighters from Ryde have arrived on scene to discover the upper section of the well-aged tree has been cleared from off the vehicle by members of the public. No individuals are trapped – they have self-extricated.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are currently checking over the 2 occupants, who appear to have escaped injury.
Police were also called to the scene but stood down upon arrival. Other resources were also mobilised to the incident but were not required.
Local firm Ivy Tree Care are now working to clear the debris.
