Island Line services have been brought to a halt following the discovery of a person on the railway track in Ryde this lunchtime (Thursday).
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on scene at St John’s Train Station where they are attending to a male at the side of the track north of Ryde St John’s.
Trains are currently unable to operate in either direction.
South Western Railway say the incident is that of trespass.
UPDATE @ 13:25 – The individual is conscious and breathing but bloodied having sustained what appears to be a facial injury. It is unknown at this time if the gentleman has come into contact with a train.
Paramedics are preparing to stretcher the male to the nearby ambulance. Police are not on scene.
Island Line services are expected to resume once the line obstruction has been cleared.
UPDATE @ 14:03 – Passengers are reporting that the electricity supply has been switched back on and trains are now operating between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin.
The injured man has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
UPDATE @ 14:20 – A spokesperson for South Western Railway has confirmed that at around 12:55 they were alerted to a trespasser on the track. The trains were halted and the electricity supply switched off to allow emergency services to attend to the individual.
There is not thought to have been any contact between the train and the trespasser.
