St George’s Way in Newport has been closed by Island Roads this morning (Thursday) as a result of a tree falling across the carriageway.
Traffic is heavy in the area as motorists attempt to head into Newport town via Blackwater.
The closure is in place between Asda roundabout and Matalan roundabout on the northbound carriageway. The tree has come down at the Matalan roundabout.
Vehicles are being diverted locally via Medina Avenue and Church Litten.
UPDATE – The road has now re-opened in both directions.
The eucalyptus has looked dodgy for a while I wonder if it was that one ?
