The Breeze at Island Harbour has announced that it has closed its doors with immediate effect and for the foreseeable future in order to evaluate the venue’s long-term viability.
Today’s announcement comes just 3 months after Island Echo highlighted the restaurant’s poor cleanliness and shocking food hygiene rating. The new attracted over 400 comments from Islanders about their varied experiences following the closure of the kitchen after an Environmental Health visit.
In a statement, a spokesperson has said:
“It is with great sadness that we have had to make the very difficult decision to temporarily close the Breeze Restaurant & Bar at Island Harbour, with immediate effect.
“The business is now closed for the foreseeable future, whilst we evaluate its long-term viability”.
The website has been changed to display the closure notice.
It’s been said that problems finding experienced and qualified staff has caused enormous difficulties over the last summer season. In addition, rising costs have contributed to the decision to close the doors.
Anyone customers or suppliers needing to contact The Breeze are asked to email [email protected].

Can’t believe it took this long. Shame for the few decent staff up there.
Food and hygiene in the kitchen was a disgrace. Food served raw.
Hopefully it gets taken on by a better company who can bring standards up.
Too right get leigh brown away from running these companies into the ground
Read the write up about the 1 star rating Read comments at the bottom of that surprised to be honest it still had customers mind you I believe it was the locals drinking more than people eating there
I typed in breeze on here saw everything !!!!!!
Thank god!
Management was a joke up there.
This past week just same locals in there.
Doors shut by 8.
Customer was complaining about food found under a table when it had just opened (chips) was told I don’t no how that got there? Hmmm
What has happened
All this is in a week
Bring back Scott, Bob, Sammie, Ian shannon and Dean
Keep kaz, leona, Andy, fin, kayleigh and krissie.
Staff told us few nights ago some members off staff had left due to wages not paid and hours cut dramatically. Was told by this staff member they were already looking for other Jobs
Saw many staff in tears at times due to awful running of this company
Spoke to a friend of mine who has a private house up at island harbour. He said he visits the breeze a few times a week and bar staff are saying there’s hardly been anyone in all day. He also said a few members of staff seeked work elsewhere.
You seem to have a lot to say about the breeze so either you worked there and got sacked or you’re just very obsessed with the breeze I’ve worked there 5 and a half years and it’s been the best 5 and a half years of my life I’ve made family, friends everything so for someone like you to be so obsessed with bringing the breeze down constantly I hope you’re proud of yourself under a fake name x
Alisha I’ve been served by you in the breeze, your a lovely young lady always polite. However I can see your not happy with comments on here, I have noticed a decline in customers and have read numerous bad reviews on Facebook, trip advisor and breeze site itself. The breeze has sadly gone down hill and although staff come and go the name sticks with a restaurant. Many of the staff at the breeze that I personally met were lovely but I did have a bad meal. People are allowed there opinions even if you don’t agree x
Hi you said you work there, worked there do you no what happens to people who have booked for Christmas. Thank you
Alisha and Rachael are great sadly this place has gone down hill I too have had a bad meal and was refunded. But the waiters waitresses and bar staff aren’t always to blame
Is it true there was rats wondering around? I no that it’s close to the river so there will be rats close by but heard people saying rats in kitchen
Yeah not all 4 legged some probably still with the convict tags on
Grow up you’re obsessed
Least the folly opening back up there’s lots of jobs available there..
I do feel bad for the innocent staff up there management have probably known for weeks
Yeah they did but only the manageress
Hello I would like to say this isn’t a surprise to me which is a shame. It use to be a delightful place to visit. This past year its staff chatting rather than serving. The overall standards of food, presentation, cleanliness off staff had dropped dramatically. Its a shame as there are few staff which really did not deserve this. Andy is a great manager however even he has been overrode with decisions made by higher authority. My wife visited this week she said toilets were a disgrace when speaking to a waitress about it she was told sorry its out of my control I can speak to gaynor (manager) yes please she said the waitress came back and said they get cleaned in the morning topped up if need be we’re understaffed sorry.
Disgusting
Heard cleaners left with waitress and chef
Staff measurements have gone down hill and which was worse no body did anything about it
Staff stood around smoking and bitchin after staff
Drinking outside and smoking anything and everything way past closing
heard also only cleaned about 6am.
few months ago place was ok
I knew there had been a problem between the new chef and 90% of staff. As ALL staff including manager bitcin the new chef however. MATT and FINLAY have been coping very well in the kitchen
standards have lowered with most of the staff there. But wouldn’t you give up.??
Hours cut
Not being appreciated by employers
Having staff leaving and quitting like flies around you
Staff just being taken off the rota without notice
Oh no poor kayleigh crissie and kaz these guys were great over the festival. Hope you guys had fair warnings so you can get new jobs. Heard staff had been quitting like mad last couple months hope you darlings got out in time xx
Staff good over festival place immaculate better much better than lately staff miserable and complaining constantly
Hope Andys OK!!! He was great too he’s such a great guy fingers crossed all open for festival next year
He doesn’t need all this on top of all the hassle and stress he’s had of late. He said staff were having hours cut
Hey guys sorry to hear the loss of the breeze had heard the rumours when on my boat last weekend chefs and waitresses had left to be honest did notice past week when going for a cheeky pint with the lads it was shutting early and there was broken plant pots and chairs chucked around outside. Usually pretty uptogether barmaid said some staff had left and new people in. Go back a month better food, cleaner dining and happier staff.
Good place for flats
Yeah more unfinished projects by there dodgy companies wait for what they do to poor norris castle
Another example of abysmal management… maybe they could get a job at GKN
Doubt it probably have to be honest for that this bunch of scammers and fraudsters mostly from mainland will just slap a bit of paint on rename it and say its 100% new.
Hello can I ask what happens to people who have put deposits down for the Christmas dinners? Will they get refunded?
It says at bottom to email them
I’m not at all surprised heard rumours of this going around for a while its a shame as a good location. There’s alot of restaurant jobs available at the folly
We’ve delivered food here and I wouldn’t eat there it’s dirty
SURPRISED whats happening with all the staff
Don’t know about cleanliness but their customer service was absolute crap so going under is no surprise
Ive always loved it there beautiful.spot in yhe summer and enjoyed taking my grandsons there i coukd sit out the back and they played happily….ive never experienced bad food or seen any staffing issues…im really sad its closed and hope it can reopen soon its such a lovely spot..to good to loose.
Always clean when we visited
I went in on Tuesday disgusting, poo under toilet rim in men’s vile crumbs under the table on opening spoke to bar lady she said cleaner had quit over non payment management we’re cleaning .
It was always clean and lovely when we visited with our families also beautiful play area
Went there days before closing was dirty was told cleaners quit a member of the public had raw food sent out to her and kitchen staff were so loud it sounded like a kids play ground
I feel bad for the staff but not management I work in the catering industry and I wouldn’t allow this non matching uniforms chefs walking through restaurant to get a drink and trapsing back into kitchen not clean bad standards
Proper shame
Was up her alot in the summer was a nice atmosphere staff laughing and joking
Don’t understand how it all changed so quickly
I have heard demolition on the cards?
Get rid of the dirty scum don’t wash there hands after smoking making pizzas hope the place never reopens will make alot of people happy
I used to frequent the breeze a few years ago and could not fault Scott the Head Chef, Kerry the Bar Manager and Dave, one of the waiters. All 3 done their very best to make me and friends welcome. Excellent service and food. So sad it had to end. You need those sort of staff back if you’re starting again.
Your right Scott kayleigh and krissie family run unit get these 3 in.
They’ve been treated bad since the start. Sacked made homeless bring back a couple of them. Treated these 3 horrendous how does management sleep at night with the way they treat the innocent
I no my x husband worked there and I lived in 1 of there properties
Scott was great here expecially with the covid suited and booted
Still happy and working like a trooper
BRING IN SCOTT AND HIS FAMILY TO RUN IT
This place needed to shut staff hours were cut dramatically
Should be bulldozed down and given to island harbour to sell in there package deal ran by cons anyway
Mmm, a lot of varying comments. Regardless of comments there will be many more catering businesses closing down due to rising unaffordable energy bills. Then everyone can cast their evil cutting comments on them. Rock on all you snowflakes!
