Firefighters from Shanklin and Sandown have responded to a fire at Battery Gardens in Sandown this evening (Sunday).
2 appliances were mobilised to the scene off Beachfield Road at around 20:20 following a 999 call from a member of the public.
The crews swiftly arrived on scene to discover a tent well alight on a secluded path near the cliff edge.
Eye witnesses have told Island Echo that they heard 2 people in the vicinity of the area moments before smoke was seen rising from behind a hedgerow.
A hose reel has been used to dowse the flames and damp down the area.
A search of the gardens has been carried out to ensure no other fires have developed.
