Firefighters were called out to the Esplanade at Ryde after 3 older teenagers dumped a sofa on the beach before then setting it on fire earlier this afternoon (Sunday).
1 fire appliance from Ryde was mobilised to the west of Ryde Pier at 13:55 following calls of concern from members of the public.
The single crew spent just under 30 minutes on scene using buckets of sea water to extinguish the malicious blaze.
Island Echo readers snapped the irresponsible trio – 2 boys and 1 girl – carrying the sofa along the beach ahead of the fire being started.
Although no one was injured in the incident, the fire resulted in tying up resources from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and has left a charred debris at the coast.
I hope the picture evidence is enough to catch them and fine them all for fly tipping, contamination of the sea and wasting our fire fighters time.
I agree Mr G and the charges are all separate and the parents should be the one to pay.
