UPDATED: TEEN STABBED DURING KNIFEPOINT ROBBERY IN RYDE

A teenager has sustained facial and chest injuries following a knifepoint robbery in the Swanmore area of Ryde during the early hours of this morning (Sunday).

Police were called to Swanmore Road, near Weeks Road, at 00:54 following reports of a knifepoint robbery on the street.

Officers rushed to the scene and discovered a 17-year-old boy with minor injuries to his face and his chest – although Police are not able to clarify how the boy came to be injured at this stage. He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital by paramedics for medical attention.

According to local residents, who have described hearing hysteric screaming, the 17-year-old victim was ‘stabbed’ in the face, near to his eye and in his side. He was with his girlfriend at the time of the robbery.

Police say that a group of 4 people were approached by 2 men, who threatened the group and demanded they hand over items. During the incident a 17-year-old boy was ‘assaulted’. The 2 men then ran off having stolen a number of items including a handbag and bank cards.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has told Island Echo:

“We were called at 12.54am on Sunday 13 October to a report of a knifepoint robbery in Swanmore Road, Ryde.

“It was reported that a group of four people were approached by two men, who then threatened the group and demanded they hand over items.

“One of the group, a 17-year-old boy, was assaulted. The two men then ran off, having stolen items including a handbag and bank cards.

“The 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries to his face and chest.

“An investigation is underway and officers will remain in the area today making enquiries”.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting the crime reference number 44190366053.

UPDATE @ 13:10 – The Isle of Wight Ambulance  Service has confirmed that the 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital with stab wounds.

Councillor Karen Lucioni has spoken out about today’s incident. She’s told Island Echo:

“Let me start by sending my best wishes to the young man who was hurt in this appalling incident. I am shocked and upset as are others who have contacted me regarding this.

“It is a reminder that even our island is not out of reach to knife crime. We need to ensure all our young are looked after, safe and given information to deal with this ever growing issue.

“I will continue to work with residents, police and other community groups to try to address and tackle the growing anti social behaviour and crime.

“People need to feel safe, we need to understand why this is happening and address the underlying reason why knives are being used. We also need a clear message to those carrying knives you will have consequences, before this epidemic gets worse”.

UPDATE @ 13:20 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed this afternoon that a 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old man have both been arrested on suspicion of robbery and are currently in police custody.

Absolute scum. We live on the Isle of Wight for goodness sake, people need to stop running around acting like gangsters. Really wouldn’t use the word ‘men’ to describe these creptiles either, what kind of man robs and stabs a group of young teens. Sickening.

When we STOP importing the worlds undesirables and then can find room in jails for OUR OWN home grown low life to be jailed for MEANINGFUL sentences.

I’m sorry but I grew up in Ryde and have first hand experience of the social deprivation and what it does to young people. People I went to school with are doing time for burglary and other serious crimes, one stabbed another man in the neck with a broken bottle, they run around robbing each other with claw hammers too. In fact a shocking amount of the people I went to school with are actually dead of hard drug overdoses, it’s devastating to see the same thing happening to another generation. These kinds of crimes are actually quite common, they just usually happen inside buildings between drug addicts, so it doesn’t get reported by the press, as people don’t witness it. These people are also not “imported” they were born on the Island, often to parents who were also born here. I don’t know what area of the Island all these people who think this kind of stuff doesn’t happen here live, but try moving to central Ryde or Newport for a couple of weeks and see what it’s like.

You’re hilarious. So a crime committed by islanders is now a foreign person’s fault?! Why? Because they are taking up all the prison spaces? You fool.

That robbery had no connection or relation to anyone or anything but those people. Their punishment also. Stop looking for others to blame and accuse and broaden your very disgusting political ideology.

With all due respect this whole ‘we live on the Isle of Wight’ isn’t relevant anymore. The islands been like this for years. The older generation were just to blind to see it because its their ‘isle of wight’. If you dont live that life you dont know what to be looking out for. This Island is a farce, sold to people as the perfect dream when in reality its just another seaside town becoming more & more exposed to inner city lifestyles. Look into ‘country lines’.

I take it you never leave this island. Try visiting any major city on a weekend, this Island does not compare with mainland violence. Look at the stabbings and murders in London. Major crime has not arrived yet and let’s hope it never does. But we still need to stand up to this scum so they dont make it unsafe to go out at night. We are lucky to live in relative peace here.

Hardly coincidence that where mass immigration has occurred in the UK, the crime rises too. As many can’t afford to live here, we are, less crime ridden than the mainland thus far.

@anon-

you do not have to look that far. Portsmouth is about as far as you need to look for the connections to the island.

You are correct, although this hasn’t been like this for years – it has been like this for decades.

Absolute rubbish !! The Island was never like that . Growing up in the 60″s and seventies families never even felt the need to lock their doors . We certainly never and we always felt safe to walk the streets but not now !!

The Island is suffering from a big influx of scum from the overspill of our inner Cities. It time to arm yourselves with self defense legal sprays and alarms available from AMAZON for a few pounds I carry 2 types of sprays red in colour which will stain the attacker face and clothes for months. Also I have a personal alarm .Fortunately I am also trained in self defense having spent years as a prison officer.

A FULL description would be of more use. Is it because of the Usual reason that if they are not snowy white then descriptions are ‘withheld’ to keep the masses in ignorance?

How can ANYONE help not knowing what these beings looked like?

The best way to tackle this epidemic of knife crime more police to stop and search if found carrying a knife without a very good reason mandatory 12 months prison even if first offence and bring back borstal style prison for young offenders make it a place of dread not a drug fuelled holiday camp as most prison are and for once f(;k the snowflakes giving them excuses for this behaviour

Members of the community need to pick up some fair priced cheap WiFi battery cameras and pop them half way up your house and link in with your WiFi.

You can legally cover your own property and part of the street (please don’t aim them at your neighbours houses / windows).

Would give police a lot more to work with. Imagine if every house had some decent footage from outside, where would they run!

Yes they could wear a hoodie, but if they hop a fence, you know where to pick up the samples. It they run to an area, the police know where to search. If they drop the knife, again they know the area.

If people really want to see a difference, take it into your own hands and spend £100 and get yourself a deterrent. As well as supply evidence on the crimes around you.

Totally disagree. All CCTV will do is push these beings into areas where there is none, as it is impossible to cover every hedge, long fence, ally, side street etc with video coverage.

The ‘issue’ to me is that much of this sort of vile crime has been ‘imported’ so our own young see others doing such, and often getting away with such, or slap on the wrist sentences, and so have no fear of doing the same.

The young, despite what people think, aren’t stupid. They KNOW that the courts will not jail them easily, and any, and every excuse is given as to why they were carrying a knife.

If you ban knives, then a screwdriver, will be used, as ‘either’ can be ‘justified’ by a good solicitor, saying ‘He needed it to tighten his dear old granmothers wooden leg’ etc. Or was going to help his mother peep the veg, and slipped the knife in his pocket without thinking etc.

Thanks to the rest of the world’s low life filling our jails, courts cannot give meaningful sentences to our own, home grown, rubbish AND they know it.

So to me, cameras like when you watch the Helicopter police spend thousands in tracking stolen cars driven recklessly and with the driver, given a tiny fine and banned from driving for a year, as IF ‘either’ punishment ‘bovvered’ ‘it’ anyway as social will pay the fine and never had a licence to lose anyway.

These beings need army style boot camps, with no press, no visits and no compassion, then micro chip the rubbish and ensure they are kept there for minimum of ten years if any knife or weapon is attempted to be used in fighting.

The worlds imported rubbish should be returned to where it’s dna shows it belongs, along with it’s entire family, so as to act as a peer pressure to prevent the ‘up and coming’ scum from going too far off the rails.

Of course it won’t happen.

So yes, the feel good factor of some old granny having a fuzzy thugs image on an SD card, along with her aged dog, to give to the toothless Police and courts is ALL we can do.

And THEN the police ‘may’ make a successful arrest, BUT it will be the Granny, for NOT having a dog licence.

See it how it is, NOT how you expect it to be

True, it will redirect them to streets with no CCTV, parks, dark alleys, the beach etc. But that’s where we want them. We all know you don’t walk a park or beach at 1am… Even in my prime where I thought I was invincible, I’d still steer clear of hot spots on my way back from clubs.

What people don’t want / need is police tape on their doorstep.

There’s a million things that could stop the crime, but none of them are ever going to be incorporated.

But honestly, all I care about is people being able to clear their own streets of this crap.

Also remember Eric’s comment. Few quid on Amazon and you can arm yourselves, mother’s, sisters etc with red spray that will disorientate any attacker, and keep them identifiable for up to 7 days. Also, personal alarms are good for walking at night. I’m sure many people would call the police and scream out there windows to deter your attacker if it ever did happen.

Don’t live in fear people… Just take care of yourselves.

Very laudable suggestion and very useful , but £100 is out of reach of a lot of people. You can get a wifi cam that will record to a PC/laptop for around £25 but maintaining it is a hassle. Perfect for the odd usage though.

NO POINT IN THIS I WAS THE NIEGHBOURHOOD watch organiser in my road and invested in 3 top range CTV cameras and over a period of 2 years gave at least 6 clear images of scum damaging cars and properties I also held monthly meeting of residents so as to organise support for the Police and what was the result of all this NOTHING!! The police just shrugged off the evidence and said we don’t have anyone spare to view the videos or investigated the crimes! So I gave up!! Your on your own don’t rely on the Police they only give you shit and a crime number.

It’s the digital age. You don’t have to get the police to book them. You just need the community to know they’re scum. Tag their name to their video. Share it on the Facebook groups etc. Show their family and friends who they really are. If it gets enough traction, the police will have to respond.

People don’t realise police is politics, I’d enough of you flood their page they will respond. They have their own social media officers now days!

They cut the police force in half and wonder why there is more crime. All towns have issues but when you cut the police force it WILL get worse. At least the cuts could pay for the 4 billion pound refurbishment of the palace that politicians get to sit in.

Bro said that police were in the flats opposite top of Well street with a suspect on the stairwell.

If that were your teenage children assulted and frightened in that way, you would ensure that once their slap on the wrist sentence had been given, that the low life pair would be wise to have a CCTV pointing backwards over their shoulders for the rest of their worthless lives.

Plenty of home grown scumbags on this island.. Sick and tired of the our island idiots blaming others, I live in central Ryde and have done for the last 14 years it’s no different than any other town anywhere in the UK. Being from South London (1967) People comparing it to London are having a laugh. Lol .. 12m people within the M25 is not comparable to whole of Hampshire let alone the IOW. Lol

These chappies with the knives should have a jolly good talking to! Naughty behaviour using sharp things. Someone could get hurt or even worse, lose an eye. Sit them down with a cup of cocoa and ask them why they do it. That’ll scare them!

For all those with your heads in the sand…Try looking at the crime figures online, because the islands crime is already higher than a lot of mainland towns/counties… and don’t even bother comparing it to big cities like London etc, as that’s just stupid! Ryde is a shithole anyway cos it’s full of druggies!

Just another quick one. First of all you’ll never have a fixed link as our roads wont be able to cope with it. We can just about cope with a festival on grid lock, and a change of roundabout in newport, let alone a whole new structure. Anyhow back to the point. As we did with the channel tunnel. Once that bridge was built, imagine all those other folks popping over, like GYPSY TRAVELLORS and their flock… trust me, this island is luxury to some places.
