A taxi driver has died following a medical episode at the wheel resulting in him crashing into another vehicle causing the closure of Ryde Pier.
It is understood the male taxi driver had a heart attack at the wheel of his Toyota Avensis estate, crashing into a Toyota Corolla hatchback, shunting the car forward into a concrete wall.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service sent three vehicles to the scene at the entrance to Ryde Pier shortly after 19:30, however the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger of the parked car was taken to hospital for treatment
The pier reopened shortly after 20:30.
