THE private takeover of the iconic Ventnor Botanic Gardens was approved last night by the Isle of Wight Council.
Cabinet members agreed to a 125 year lease for John Curtis, who intends to set up a Community Interest Company to run the gardens, which sees over 75,000 visitors a year.
For the first time, admission charges will be introduced once a lease agreement has been signed and the gardens have been handed over to the new American owners.
Mr Curtis is expected to invest over £800,000 into the gardens over the next 5 years.
