Police on the Isle of Wight are understood to have launched an investigation into an alleged sexual offence, which has led to a male being hospitalised this afternoon (Saturday). A large number of officers swarmed Fort Street in Sandown at just gone 13:00, with units responding from across the Island. Around 90 minutes later, an ambulance from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service left the scene on blue lights and is thought to have rushed a male to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport, followed by 3 Police cars. Island Echo understands that an incident has led to a male suspect being injured, but further details are unknown at this time. Forensic investigators remain at an address on Fort Street this afternoon as enquiries into the allegations continue. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is not expected to comment on the matter until Wednesday, due to the Christmas holidays. UPDATE – Police have now confirmed that a male has been arrested over a serious assault and exposure.
