Reports of multiple people stuck in the mud at Ryde, prompting an emergency response from 2 Coastguard Rescue Teams, has transpired to be a false alarm with good intent.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to Ryde Harbour shortly before 20:30 following a 999 call from a member of the public.
Although it was initially reported that individuals were in the mud, it has been confirmed that the call in fact relates to 2 boats stuck on an outer sandbank to the north of Ryde Harbour.
3 Coastguard Rescue Officers have been deployed onto the sands to make contact with the vessels, which are high and dry.
Ryde Inshore Rescue’s Rescue 2 lifeboat has been tasked and has transited across the sands on the launch vehicle.
No one is thought to be injured and the boats appear undamaged.
UPDATE @ 21:45 – HM Coastguard have now stood down from the incident.
The boats are expected to refloat on the next tide.

Could be James Bond, run aground.
Surly 007 could afford a tide table!!
A number of people stuck in the mud in Ryde?? Surely that’s the case across the Island, isn’t it… 🙂
