Firefighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been mobilised to reports of a residential property fire in Ryde tonight (Saturday).
An appliance from Ryde has been sent to a block of flats on Slade Road, where firefighters have entered an address rigged in breathing apparatus (BA) and armed with a hose reel.
Emergency services were alerted to the situation in Oakfield at around 22:10.
Newport Fire Station are also understood to have been mobilised to the incident.
UPDATE @ 22:34 – Island Echo understands that the 999 call was made to fire control by a local alarm engineer who had been called out to inspect what was thought to be a faulty alarm system.
The engineer arrived on scene at The Rowans to discover smoke issuing from a flat.
Firefighters have forced entry to the property and have dealt with the incident, thought to be doughnuts and a tea towel left on the hob.
Other resources mobilised to the scene have since been stood down.
