Fears of a blaze developing at The Bay Academy in Sandown have been dowsed, with smoke from a nearby bonfire being blamed for the alert tonight (Friday).
3 retained appliances from Sandown, Shanklin and Ryde, the aerial ladder platform from Ryde and the Incident Command Unit from Newport were all mobilised to the school on The Fairway at 20:27.
It was reported that smoke could be seen coming from the secondary school building, however, the first crews on scene have been able to quickly ascertain that there is no fire present, despite the smell of burning.
Firefighters have identified that the smoke lingering in the air is likely coming from a nearby bonfire in a residential area.
Crews are standing down and returning to station having double checked the area.
