UPDATED: 30-year-old David Hilton Orchard of Hyde Road, Shanklin is to appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court tomorrow (Friday) accused of arson with intent/reckless as to whether life was endangered.
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to Beaconsfield Road in Ventnor during the early hours of 10th February this year. It is there that they found a building well alight.
Appliances from across the Island responded to the emergency with a total of 2 main jets, 4 hose reels and 14 breathing apparatus used to bring the blaze under control.
Now, following an investigation by Police, Mr Orchard has been charged with a single charge of arson with intent/reckless as to whether life was endangered, contrary to sections 1(2), 1(3) and 4 of the Criminal Damage Act 1971.
He will appear before Magistrates in Newport tomorrow.
UPDATE – Mr Orchard’s case has been adjourned and committed to the Isle of Wight Crown Court, where he will appear on 29th October.
He has been given unconditional bail.
