A serious road traffic collision involving 2 cars, which have both partially left the carriageway, has forced the closure of the main road through Havenstreet tonight (Wednesday). The incident has occurred on the bend by The Little Cow Shed at the top end of the village. Multiple police, fire and ambulance crews are in attendance having been called out shortly before 20:45. Island Echo understands 2 white cars have collided head-on and have come to rest off the road – on the verge of a drop into the field below. The road is closed at the junction with Firestone Copse Road and is expected to remain closed for several hours. UPDATE @ 21:15 – The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has 3 ambulance crews, a rapid response paramedic and an operational commander on scene tending to at least 3 injured casualties. The extent of their injuries is unclear at this time.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has 3 appliances from Ryde, Newport and East Cowes in attendance. Access to Firestone Copse Road is now blocked. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. UPDATE @ 22:30 – The driver of a Vauxhall Corsa has been arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving offences.
