Search and rescue volunteers from WightSAR have been deployed alongside Police in the search for missing 51-year-old Joyce Maryon from Ryde.
Joyce hasn’t been seen since late on Tuesday night and concerns are growing for her welfare. She was last seen in Green Street at around 23:50.
A search is underway in the central Ryde area with teams scouring the streets and open spaces from their established rendezvous point at St John’s. A POLSA – Police search advisor – has travelled over from the mainland and is working with the teams on the ground.
Joyce is described as white with pale skin, short, stocky with brown hair. She may be wearing white patterned pyjamas or tracksuit trousers, a distinctive fleece with a wolf covering the back, a purple hat, and blue trainers with white soles.
Local residents are being urged to check outbuildings as Joyce may have taken refuge somewhere. Anyone with private CCTV should check their footage as this may bring up some leads.
It is unclear why news of Joyce’s disappearance has taken several days to surface. An appeal for information was only launched by Hampshire Constabulary earlier on this afternoon (Friday) and WightSAR were not called into action until around 14:30.
It remains unclear at this moment in time if an aerial search by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter during the early hours of Wednesday morning is connected with the investigations into Joyce’s disappearance. It is known the helicopter circled the Ryde and Nettlestone areas in relation to a missing person.
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Joyce Maryon is asked to contact Police on 101, quoting 44190123466.
