A search of Culver Down involving an estimated 50 emergency personnel has failed to locate a missing middle-aged woman today (Tuesday).
Police and HM Coastguard were called to Culver between Bembridge and Sandown at around 10:20 this morning, as first reported by Island Echo. The number of resources on scene soon increased to include Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 175, WightSAR and Bembridge RNLI, as well as Hampshire Constabulary’s Marine Unit.
The extensive search, which was carried out in some of the most difficult weather conditions, was called off at around 16:30 after more than 6 hours. Despite the incredible efforts by all involved, the woman remains missing in currently unclear circumstances.
Shortly before 17:00 2 vehicles – an Audi belonging to the missing woman and a Renault van – were recovered from a car park on Culver Down by Police. It follows the arrival of CID officers on scene earlier in the afternoon.
Hampshire Constabulary have not issued a description of the missing woman nor have they commented any further on today’s events.
