April Fools… An exciting major development in Ryde has been announced today (Wednesday 1st) which will see an outdoor water park built on the seafront next to Ryde Pier, as well as the transformation of the entire Esplanade.
Under the proposed scheme, land is set to be reclaimed, landscaped and then built upon at Western Gardens at the bottom of Union Street – a development will which also involve reclaiming more land at Quay Street to extend the car park and the relocation of Hovertravel, who have today launched their own ‘Solent 65’ fragrance.
A Big Wheel, similar to the in Brighton, will be installed at Eastern Gardens and will overlook Ryde Harbour, which will host a watersports centre.
The train line between Ryde St John’s and Ryde Pier Head will be removed and replaced by a new road network, which will allow motorists to drive underneath the streets of Ryde between the extended Quay Street car park and St John’s.
It is anticipated work will begin in 2019 and will be completed by 1st April 2025.
