Rush hour traffic heading in and out of Newport on Staplers Road is being diverted this evening (Friday) as a result of a road traffic collision.
Hampshire Constabulary and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are currently on scene at the incident near to the Lavender Farm.
Firefighters from the Isle of Fire and Rescue Service are also assisting with the incident.
3 vehicles have been involved in the collision, a BMW, Citroen and Dacia Duster were the vehicles involved.
It is understood there is no serious injury, however, 3 ambulances are on scene treating occupants for minor injuries.
The road has been blocked in both directions with traffic diverting via Long Lane, Briddlesford Road and Blacklands Lane.
UPDATE @ 17:15 – Traffic management operatives who were manually controlling the temporary traffic lights at Wootton Common, have closed the road at Whiterails Road and are advising traffic to divert via Briddlesford Road while the road is closed.
Buses are currently on diversion, while emergency services deal with the collision.
UPDATE @ 18:50 – Island Echo readers have been in touch to say that the carriageway remains blocked, although work is in place to clear the road as soon as possible.
We also understand there was also another minor 2 car shunt, due to queueing traffic coming from Newport, caused by the blockage ahead.
UPDATE – The damaged vehicles have now been recovered and the road is now fully open in both directions.
