UPDATED: Fire crews from Ryde and Newport are undertaking a rescue mission from a trench in Bembridge this afternoon (Monday)
2 appliances from Ryde and the specialist rescue tender from Newport are working alongside the Isle of Wight ambulance Services to free the casualty.
The incident is understood to be located on Embankment Road with appliances attending the area surrounding the GP Motorworks building.
UPDATE @ 13:40 – The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance is currently en-route to the scene and Hampshire Constabulary are in attendance to help keep traffic flowing past the incident.
UPDATE @ 14:10 – It is understood that a male has fallen into an MOT inspection pit within a local garage, hitting his head.
He is currently unresponsive.
UPDATE @14:39 – The injured male is now being conveyed by ambulance to the awaiting Air Ambulance at Bembridge Airport.
He will be flown to a mainland hospital in due course.
