UPDATED: Firefighters are carrying out the rescue of a woman from a riverbank in the middle of Newport this evening (Wednesday).
Crews from nearby Newport fire station and from Ryde Fire Station are on scene at Foxes Road near the Sainsbury’s supermarket. 2 appliances, a rescue tender, a water rescue unit and 2 officers are in attendance having been called at just before 18:30.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are also on scene and have requested the attendance of the air ambulance.
It has been confirmed that a woman is trapped in amongst the undergrowth, but it is unclear at this moment in time how the individual has got into such a predicament.
UPDATE @ 19:25 – The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has attempted to land at the scene, but has re-routed to an alternative landing site.
Firefighters are working with paramedics to free the adult and transfer her to an awaiting ambulance.
UPDATE @ 19:37 – The injured woman has been freed and is being conveyed by land ambulance to the awaiting air ambulance.
