Red Funnel is continuing to demonstrate its commitment to keeping the Isle of Wight connected 365 days a year. For yet another consecutive year, the company is set to be the only ferry operator sailing the Solent on Christmas Day.
Red Osprey will depart Southampton at 09:00 and 12:00 and return from East Cowes at 10:30 and 13:30.
Red Funnel has also added 18 extra daily crossings (9 each way) on its Hi-Speed foot passenger Red Jet service between West Cowes and Southampton on every Sunday leading up to Christmas, making it easier to sort last-minute Christmas shopping and indulge in the delights of the season.
Fran Collins, CEO at Red Funnel, said:
“I’m very pleased that we offer the only cross-Solent vehicle service on Christmas Day. It’s a tradition we are delighted to continue as part of our commitment to ensuring the mainland and Island stay connected every day of the year.
“Our hardworking staff and crew are a testament to Red Funnel’s dedication to providing an excellent level of service all year round; they are once again going the extra mile this Christmas to keep our ferries sailing and our customers feeling festive.”

They make it sound like they are being nice by putting 4 sailings on, when actually it should still be running every hour, as basically it’s a public service, as it’s the only way on & off at the moment, until the fixed link it built! solentfreedomtunnel.co.uk
there wont be a tunnel – not any time soon.
Red funnel is not a public service – it is a “for profit” ferry company and decides its own timetable based on usage data gained over time.
At least Red Funnel is a “for profit” ferry company that pays some corporation tax in the UK, unlike Shitelink..
They continue to defer all tax away from this country.
Boycott these scumbags. I am!!
personally, the hard working staff members at all businesses should have that money in higher wages and not be expected to pay it to the government in the form of corporation tax. The government and HMRC are the worst for sponging money off hard working businesses and giving it to themselves.
The government takes from businesses in the form of income tax on staff, national insurance on staff, VAT on the goods, tax on insurance, tax on fuel, business rates and anything else I have forgotten – they are leeches on business.
People in this country demand that business pay more tax, then whine like hell about paying higher ticket prices – you cannot have it both ways.
the view of “defering tax from the country” does not stack up.
The revenue is in sterling -the only country that accepts sterling for goods and services is the UK and a couple of small islands around the world, so wightlink would have to exchange it for another currency to make use of it outside the UK.
