UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at a fish & chip shop in Ryde this afternoon (Friday).
2 appliances and an aerial ladder platform are all on scene at Oakfield High Street, where a small fire has broke out in the range of Dory’s Den. Further appliances are en-route.
Smoke could be seen issuing from the takeaway ahead of the arrival of fire crews, according to eye witnesses.
The incident is under control and crews are using positive pressure ventilation to rid the building of smoke.
UPDATE @ 15:00 – It has been confirmed to Island Echo that a small fire developed in the range during a cleaning out procedure.
Thankfully, the fire was out upon arrival of the first crews – who arrived on scene in just 3 minutes.
The member of staff was able to isolate supplies and close the lid of the range, preventing the situation developing into a full scale fire.
Appliances are now being stood down from the incident.
