The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attending what has been described as a potential hazardous materials incident in Sandown this morning (Tuesday).
1 appliance from Shanklin is on scene at a block of flats on Leed Street, close to the junction with The Broadway.
It is currently unclear what has led to the emergency response but firefighters are conducting an initial search of the surrounding area. A cordon has been established around the building.
Island Echo is told that a duty officer has been requested at the incident.
UPDATE @ 10:20 – The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is now on scene with an ambulance crew and a local officer. They are checking over a male occupant of the property.
A Tactical Advisor from IWFRS is assessing the situation.
UPDATE @ 10:33 – It has been confirmed that firefighters are investigating the discovery of a liquid that has been sprayed onto the front door of a flat.
Police have arrived at Leed Street as investigations continue.
The male occupant of the property has been assessed by paramedics and has been given the all clear.
UPDATE @ 10:50 – A hose reel is now being used to dilute and wash away what Island Echo is told is a bleach-like corrosive substance, bringing the incident to a close.
