UPDATED: PORTACABIN FIRE ON WASTE LAND IN RYDE


UPDATED: Firefighters from Ryde and Newport are attending a portacabin fire on an area of waste land in the middle of Ryde this afternoon (Tuesday).

2 appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are on scene off St Johns Wood Road, close to the railway line. They were alerted to the plumes of smoke at around 16:28.

Crews are using 2 breathing apparatus and 2 hose reels to tackle the blaze.

UPDATE @ 17:25 – The situation has been brought under control and firefighters are damping down the area.

1 appliance remains on scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
